Calkins Creek Hunt club is approximately 2,000 acres in Baker County, Most of the Western boundary runs aside the Osceola National Forest. Still Hunting clubs are to the South, South West and North, all have 4-point buck or larger minimum. A natural creek runs through the property with adjacent swampy terrain and some hard wood surrounded by planted pines. The large clear cut at the intersection of road 2 and 1 is the result of a 2002 fire planted with new pines in 2005. There are 5-6 fire lanes in three of the large blocks that have 3-4 miles of winding trails.
Plans are to have at least 5-6 club stands with food plots and corn feeders maintained throughout the year. Club stands are first come first serve daily. Plans are to have two check-in boards for club stands to let others know when they are occupied. Boards must be reset to unoccupied before exiting the club premises for the day. Plans are to plant many of the roads and accessible trails to pull and retain game in the club. Plant it and they will come. Planting should begin in March/April with a replant in the fall.
Bears are on the property and will try to destroy any feeders they can easily access. At least two black bears patrol the property nightly. Turkey are frequently seen and Florida Panther tracks show up at times. Hog signs showed up late in the 04-05 season but only 1 has been seen in 4 years. Squirrel and dove can be found, but no dove hunting due to the sound impact.
